Building a QA Pass Checklist for Learner-Facing Course Videos

- Are captions present on the video?
- Do the captions accurately match the narration? Spot-check at least 10 specific points through the video.
- Are captions timed correctly? Do they appear when the words are spoken?
- Are proper nouns, technical terms, and product names spelled correctly in the captions?
- Are captions styled for readability (contrast, font size, position)?

- Spot-check caption accuracy at 10 or more points
- Verify all on-screen text is readable and correctly spelled
- Confirm visual transitions are smooth and intentional
- Test the video at 1.25x and 1.5x playback speed for learner experience
- Verify the video loads and plays correctly in the target LMS
Category 4: Content Accuracy
This is the category that requires your SME, not just your production team. A video can be technically perfect and still contain a factual error that creates compliance exposure or confuses learners.
- Does the content accurately reflect the current version of any procedures, regulations, or policies?
- Are all claims, statistics, or data points current and sourced?
- If the video references other modules or resources, do those references still exist and are they accurate?
- Is any trademarked content used correctly?

Category 5: Learner Experience
Beyond the technical quality and content accuracy, does the video actually work as a learning experience?
- Does the video open with a clear statement of what the learner will be able to do or understand by the end?
- Is the pacing appropriate for the complexity of the content?
- Are there any abrupt cuts that might confuse the learner?
- Does the video end with a clear summary or transition to what comes next?
- Is the total length appropriate? A video that is twice as long as it needs to be is a QA problem.

Category 6: LMS Compatibility

- Are video dimensions compatible with the LMS player?
- If the video is SCORM-wrapped, does the completion tracking trigger correctly?
- Does the video play on mobile devices, if learners are expected to access it that way?
